Research into Digipak's

Rihanna had a particularly good digipak created for her debut album 'Loud.' The CD design of a rose is connected to many of her music videos, 'Only Girl In The World' in particular, it also supports her own perfume brand. Which is advertised with her smelling a rose, this is also featured on the perfume box, although the perfume bottle is simple but unusually shaped. You would have thought that she would have possibly had the same idea that Justin Bieber had with his feminine perfume, 'Someday' where the lid to the perfume bottle is a pink and red rose.  However, due to the advertising her perfume still connects to her album and individual interpretation. An audience will now depict her with pale coloured roses, thinking of her as a artist when they come across a rose due to her digi-pak, which is the intended effect. Her digipak is also effective because everything is thoughtfully designed, from the front cover to the CD, it also flows and you are able to tell that it comes together, digipaks have to be carefully thought out and cleverly designed because they can easily not work all together and can become a mis-match.

Research Into Costume

Girl Bands in the pop genre usually dress casually in comparison to some other artists such as, Lady Gaga who is expressive through her costume when she is starring in a music video and performing. However, in the original music video to the song that we have chosen, Stooshe are wearing similar dresses but in different colours, these will be hard for us to get hold of as we have no budget. Therefore, we will have to go for a casual look as this is more realistic to our performers, but if they are dressed similarly, an example being the first picture, Little Mix are each wearing a top and shorts, then this will show that they are a girl band. I will have to do some more research into costume in the pop genre, and look at solo artists in comparison to groups.

In the pop genre, artists usually wear an item that is colourful, Rita Ora's whole outfit is quite colourful, whereas Jessie J is wearing a colourful hat and Cheryl Cole is wearing colourful trousers. This makes them stand out if they were dancing with backing dancers who are usually dressed in black. Which is the case for the third picture shown above. This is something which is achievable as many people own colourful pieces of clothing or a colourful accessory. Therefore, we will take this into account when deciding the outfit we want our performers to wear for the final product. This could also mean costume changes, which is a regular occurrence in music videos in any genre, especially if there is a change of setting as well.
